Namkeen does not travel as well as most packaged food. It goes soft, it goes stale, and the difference between a good order and a disappointing one usually comes down to things you cannot see in a product photo. Here is what actually matters.
This is the first thing to check and the easiest to overlook. A great deal of commercial namkeen is fried in palm oil, because it is cheap and stable. It also sits heavily and dulls the flavour of the spices.
Groundnut oil is the traditional choice across Rajasthan and Gujarat. Cottonseed oil is also used. Neither is palm oil, and the difference is noticeable in the first bite.
Everything we make uses groundnut or cottonseed oil, never palm oil. Our banana chips are fried in coconut oil, which is how they are made in Kerala.
Fried besan snacks are at their best within a few weeks. Large-scale distribution means stock can sit in a warehouse, then a shop, before it reaches you. Buying direct from the maker usually shortens that chain considerably.
A 1 kg pack is better value, but once opened, namkeen starts softening. If a pack will last your household a month, buy the smaller size. We sell most namkeen in 250g, 500g and 1 kg.
A full ingredient list is a reasonable minimum. Vague entries like “spices” or “flavouring” are worth questioning if you have an allergy, follow a Jain diet, or avoid gluten.
Namkeen is intensely regional, and a “Rajasthani mixture” made to a national-market recipe is usually milder and sweeter than the real thing. If you want what Jodhpur actually eats, buy from somewhere that makes it for people in Jodhpur.
Check delivery times and packaging. Namkeen needs sealed packs and reasonably quick despatch. We ship across India, free above Rs 399, and internationally to the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia and Kuwait.
You can also visit us in person at Nai Sarak Circle, Old High Court Road, Sojati Gate, Jodhpur, open 9 AM to 10 PM every day.
How long does namkeen stay fresh after opening?
Generally one to two months in an airtight container, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Humidity is what softens it, not time alone.
Is it cheaper to buy namkeen online or in a shop?
Buying direct from the maker usually costs less than retail, because there is no distributor or shop margin in between.
Can namkeen be shipped abroad?
Yes. Dry snacks travel well in sealed packs. We ship to the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia and Kuwait.
What should I avoid when buying namkeen online?
Unlisted ingredients, no mention of which oil is used, and very large packs if you are trying a brand for the first time.
